Belts and Hoses

Filter

Two of the most essential pieces to your Jaguar's engine are the belts and hoses. They deliver the source of power and functionality to your everyday commute.

How Belts and Hoses Impact Your Vehicle

The drive belts such as the timing belt and serpentine belt help run your engine and various electrical components of your vehicle. The timing belt keeps your cylinder valves opening in time with one another to allow the right amount of fuel and oxygen in for combustion with the spark plugs. It keeps the right time because the bottom side of the belt is evenly spaced with grooves that click in time with the crankshaft and camshaft gears.

The serpentine belt connects to the alternator motor. This rubber belt charges the alternator motor by spinning a pair of electromagnets in the motor to create voltage to charge the car battery. It also powers your electric windows, various engine pumps, and your dash lights.

The rubber hoses in your engine are essential for transporting fluids around your engine space securely. Obviously if you notice leaks in your engine or a loss of oil pressure or a check engine light for overheating pops on, you may have a defected hose. Like belts, these parts wear down over time and can become warped.

When to Replace Old Belts & Hoses for Jaguar

Rubber engine pieces can last up to 80,000 miles or more. Over the years, high temps and casual wear will begin to make the rubber pieces brittle and weak so it is wise to inspect your belts and hoses every 5,000 to 10,000 miles once you near 100,000 miles on your odometer.
